AS CHRISTIANS, WE CAN’T MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF WE ARE NOT DIFFERENT!

I recently had to deal with a CenturyLink customer service representative, and she concluded our conversation by telling me that I was different! She wasn’t condemning me; she was complimenting me!

Beloved, the truth is simple but searching: if there is no distinction, there can be no impact. If there is no difference in us as Christians, there will be no difference made through us!

The problem with many believers today is not a lack of activity—it’s a lack of identity. Romans 12:2 declares, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” You cannot transform a world you’re busy imitating. If we talk like the world, think like the world, and live like the world, then what exactly are we offering the world?

God has always called His people to be set apart. 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us, “You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people.” Notice the language—chosen, royal, holy, special. That means we are not common, not casual, not compromised. We are called to stand out, not blend in.

But let me be clear: being different is not about being strange—it’s about being sanctified. It’s not about isolation, but about consecration. We are in the world, but not of the world (John 17:16). We engage culture without being entangled by it.

And when we embrace that difference, that’s when the difference begins. When we love when others hate, forgive when others retaliate, and walk in integrity when others cut corners—that’s when people see Christ in us. That’s when our lives preach louder than our lips.

So, if we want to impact our families, our communities, and this generation, we must first examine ourselves. Are we truly different? Or have we become too comfortable, too quiet, or too conformed?

Because the reality is this: we cannot make a difference if we are not different. So let your life reflect the transforming power of Jesus Christ.
