Beloved, one of the greatest disciplines the Spirit will ever develop in a child of God is discernment because every Tom, Dick, or Mary—that comes to you is not necessarily assigned to you.
For you see, some people are divine appointments, but others are demonic distractions! Consequently, if you don’t have discernment, you’ll use your anointing on what God never authorized.
Your oil ain’t cheap! Your oil is costly. It represents the anointing that came through your seasons of crushing. It came through your prayers in the midnight hour, your fasting when nobody saw you, your tears when your heart was broken, your praise in the midst of pain, your ability to worship while wounded, and it came through your obedience that outlasted obstacles and opposition!
The Bible says in Psalm 23:5, “Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” But just because your cup runs over doesn’t mean God told you to pour on everybody!
So before you pour into a relationship…
Before you say yes to that ministry opportunity…
Before you attach yourself to that assignment…
You ought to stop and pray: “Lord, is this You? Is this where You’ve called me to pour, or is this a place that will drain me?”
Because when you pour your oil in the wrong place, you’ll find yourself empty, exhausted, and ineffective. But when you pour where God has ordained, there will be fruit, there will be growth, and God will get the glory!
So be careful with your oil. Guard your anointing. Steward what God has placed in your life. Walk in wisdom. Move in discernment. Stay aligned with your purpose. Because everybody is not your assignment… and your oil is too precious to waste
